Summary:
Warning displays when print output is too large (MapInfo Professional v8.0).

Question:
Warning displays when print output is too large (MapInfo Professional v8.0).

Answer:

When printing a large map, it is possible for very high resolution or very large paper dimension print requests to exceed MapInfo Professional's internal pixel limitations, which cause the print to fail. If the printer width or height is larger than 32,767 pixels, MapInfo Professional does not allow the file to be printed and displays this message:

Error: Unable to print because printer dimensions are too large. Try decreasing the print resolution or page size. Please consult the Printing Guide provided on
the CD to maximize your printing capability.

If the printable size (pixel width or height) is between 28,000 and 32,767, MapInfo Professional displays a prompt to continue and displays this message:

Warning: The output may get clipped because it is greater than 28,000 pixels. Please consult the Printing Guide provided on the CD to maximize your printing capability. Do you wish to continue.

Click YES to continue or NO to change the print resolution settings. NO is the default setting.

Large Format Printing Notes:

Testing was performed on several newer HP Designjet large format plotters.

• Maximum Pixels (32767) divided by printer resolution gives the maximum width or height in paper size that can print at that resolution.

• If the Optimize For Images Maximum Quality option is selected, the plotter cuts the output resolution down to 600 dpi.

• If the Optimize For Drawings/Text and Maximum Quality option is selected, the output resolution can be increased to 1200 dpi.

For example: By setting a paper size of 50 x 50 inches and using the Optimize For Images option with Maximum Quality setting, an image of 30,000 pixels can be printed.
