Summary:
Adding a custom symbol in MapInfo Professional 7.5.

Question:
What are the requirements for adding a custom symbol in MapInfo Professional v. 7.5 and how can that symbol be added to the custom symbol list?

Answer:
Starting with MapInfo Professional 7.5, any size and any shape 24-bit Bitmap (*.bmp) can be added to the custom symbol directory. In Windows Explorer, choose: C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\ApplicationData\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\750\CustSymb.

Copy any 24-bit Bitmap into the CustSymb directory.

In MapInfo Professional, under Options>Symbol Style, click the dropdown next to Font, and scroll up to Custom Symbols. Click the Reload button to make the dialog aware of the newly added symbol.

Click the Symbol dropdown to choose the new custom symbol from the list.

Clicking on “Display At Actual Size” will view the bitmap at actual size. This can be useful to view actual images of Real Estate sites, Building locations, landmarks, etc. Clicking on “Full view” with “Display At Actual Size” checked will show the bitmap image in full scale.
