Summary:
Thematic legend is cut off in layout window.

Question:
When using the frame tool to insert a theme legend into the layout window, the entire legend is not displayed. Even though the frame is large enough, the legend appears to be cut off.



What causes this and how can it be avoided?

Answer:
In MapInfo Professional, there are actually two types of legends: theme legends and cartographic legends.

When creating a thematic map, the legend that is automatically created is placed in a cartographic legend, the primary legend type used in MapInfo.

A theme legend can be displayed by choosing Options>Show Theme Legend Window. Since the introduction of the cartographic legend, the theme legend is rarely used. In some cases, theme legends will appear to be cut off in the layout window.

For best display results, choose to insert the cartographic legend in the layout frame.

To do this, double click on the existing legend frame (or create a new frame). In the frame object dialog that pops up, choose Legend of <desired map window> instead of theme legend of <desired map window>.
