Summary:
TargetPro 4.80 and support for SQL Server 2000
Question:
TargetPro 4.80 references SQL Server 2005 as the host for the 2011 data.
If a user is already running TP 4.7 (or earlier) on SQL Server 2000, however, what are their options, in regards to upgrading?
Answer:
User's who are currently running TP on SQL Server 2000, cannot upgrade or migrate to SQL Server 2005.
If they wish to run TP on SQL Server 2005, it must be a "clean" install, using the TP 4.76 Server Software media and these instructions:
Document URL: http://testdrive.mapinfo.com/techsupp/miprod.nsf/kbase_by_product/1622A613B15017EC8525799D0047597F
Note: They will lose all projects, custom reports, variables and imported tables and will have to re-import tables, re-define custom Reports/Variables, etc..
Alternatively, user's could install to an already existing SQL Server 2005 instance, provided it is at SP2 and has run hot Fix #7,
per the doc link above, which lists SQL Server 2005 requirements.
If user's wish to retain their custom work, or they simply do not have a supported OS, etc. to install SQL 2005, then they can:
1) run the Server Data on the existing TP 4.x SQL Server 2000 install using the TP 4.80 Supporting Files cd and the 2011 Server Data dvd(s), following the instructions in the
TP 4.80 Install Guide, found here:
http://reference.mapinfo.com/software/targetpro/english/4_8_0_2012/TargePro480_InstallGuide.pdf
2) run the Client Data install using the TP 4.80 Supporting Files cd and the 2011 Client Data dvd, following the instructions in the install guide
3) run the TP 4.80 Client software upgrade
User's would NOT run the TP 4.80 Server software upgrade.
At completion, user would be running Server and Client Data at 2011 Vintage and the Client would be 4.80, which upgrades MI Pro
to MI Pro 10.5.
