Stratus Admin console and bounds settings

Question:
What should the default bounds settings be for Stratus in the US? How can the Map open with a specific area centered?

Answer:
In Admin Console the settings for Bounds and Starting Position should be as shown below.

The Bounds have to be -20037508.34, -20037508.34, 20037508.34, 20037508.34. These are the full world extent in the popular visualisation projection. If these are entered differently then the base map and map overlays won't align properly.
The Starting position is centred on Ohio (-9190000, 4908000). These units are in metres not degrees.
The Initial Zoom level 8 is sufficient to show Ohio as a whole on a regular sized computer monitor.

To work out the X and Y of other locations its best to load a map of the USA (e.g. states) into MI Prop and then set the projection to popular visualisation. Then any XY locations you measure will be in the correct units. I have shown this in the second screen shot

In the next release of Stratus (Release 33) it will be possible for end users to specify the starting position and zoom as URL parameters when calling MapInfo Stratus - so they can have the map zoom to a specific location other then the default set by the administrator.
