- Well, the buttons I added to Open table and Open workspace work as if you
were using a MapInfo 6.5, so I guess the new Open dialog has got it's own
number.

- The reason why they melted Open Workspace and Open table into a single
dialog, I guess was to make it easier to access data. It also contains Open
DBMC for that sake, so you have access to allmost every file format
supported by MapInfo from within this dialog.

- I can in some way agree with Bills point that we are messing around with
something that might cause some trouble in the future, but right nok it
works as long as you know what you are doing, and do remember that you are
changing what can be vital things.

One thing I stumbled upon some time ago was that you cannot from within
MapBasic call a menu item - using Run Menu Command - that doesn't exist. So
imagine that someone removes a lot of menu items from the MapInfow.mnu file
because he/she never uses these menus. This might actually make some tools
not work ! That's also the reason why I tend to create my own "Dummy" menu
containing the menu items I know I'll be using thru Run Menu Command.

Peter, I agree with your assessment of the new format for open. Is
there a
call number that will ONLY open table, I would like to get it back the
way
it was. I have always had unexpected results if I open a Workspace with
another workspace open. So why the new default, does anyone open one
workspace over another? Maybe I'm missing something here. It seems that
when the open File dialog is called, the Of File Type is in the state it
was
last left in. Were there changes to Mapbasic.def in the call routines,
or
were there different calls added to change all this? I ask because I
was
thinking of getting the .mnu off v6.5 CD and using it, any reason not
to?

Yes, you can get pretty far by altering the MapInfow.mnu.

I have as you added a button to open workspace which I find very
valuable
now that MapInfo 7.0 only has a single Open dialog as default and I
allways
end up wondering very the H... all my tables are until I realize that
the
dialog only is showing workspaces...

I have added several other buttons: Run MapBasic application, Save
workspace, Close table and Close all.

I have designed some special buttons where there at the button is the
text
TAB, WOR or MBX and above the Open folder icon. If someone shopuld be
interested in these icons they can be found at:

I'm sorry but the page is in Danish, so just ignore those strange words
and
copy the Mtools32.dll to your harddisk. This DLL contains lots of well
designed icons - if I should charaterize them myself.

Another thing I like to add to the MapInfow.mnu is a shortcut to the
zoom
in, zoom out and the selector tool to the Mappershortcutmenu. This gives
me
an easy access to these often used tools without moving my mouse to
much.

Sorry to bother the list, solved this myself without using an MBX and
just
editing the mapinfo.mnu file adding:

  PushButton Icon 321
    calling 108
    HelpMsg "Open an existing workspace."

after the "open exisiting table" entry.

Greetings List,

I have a pushbutton to open a workspace File Open Dialog. It is
succesfully
added to the "Standard" toolpad and works fine. I would just like to
have
it placed between the File open table button and "Save" button.

Can this be done with my mbx application, or would it be better to
accomplisth this through the the Mapinfo.mnu file to add this button and
command?

Thanks,
Dave
