Street layer for Kings county, NY and Los Angels, CA display problems.

Question:
The street layers for Kings county, NY and Los Angeles, CA included with StreetInfo 6.0 display differently then they did in StreetInfo version 5.0. Why?

Answer:

Yes, taking a look at Kings County, NY there is a noticeable shift. Over time, the source data provider (US Census Bureau) can and will modify the geometry of existing segments (hopefully) to make them more geographically accurate. It appears as if Kings County, NY is an area that had wholesale change in the geometry, mostly this change is for the better as it is always a good thing to represent streets more and more accurately. Unfortunately, for users who are migrating between versions of derivative products (e.g. StreetInfo) and who have created derivative works from a base version of the product there can be a poor alignment when comparing them against a new version..

Unfortunately, there is no easy answer. MapInfo's translation of the Census Bureau TIGER data is a correct one.
