Summary:
In MapInfo Professional 6.0, page setup is grayed out unless a window is open.
Question:
In MapInfo Professional 5.5, page setup was not grayed out when there was no window opened. Was this an intended behavior in MapInfo 6.0?
Answer:
This is the intended behavior in MapIndo Professional 6.0. MapInfo 6.0 and later links the File>Page Setup menu option to currently open document windows (e.g.: layout, mapper, graph, legend, etc.). This also allows MapInfo to assign different page sizes, printers, and orientations, etc., to multiple specific document windows in workspace files. If no document windows are currently open, then File>Page Setup is disabled. If it is desired to predefine a specific page setup, printer, and orientation to use for all document windows by default then choose:
Options>Preferences>Printer.
Check 'MapInfo Preferred' or use the Windows Default.
Select a different printer for MapInfo preferred.
Select a different page size and orientation if desired.
Click OK.
When a new Document window is opened in MapInfo Professional, it should use those settings now by default.
Run Menu commands for Page Setup
It may have been desired in previous versions of MapInfo Professional to set these page settings beforehand using Run Menu commands to access File>Page Setup. Now, it will have to be accomplished in this manner in order to access page settings that will be applied to new windows before they are opened.
