Question:
Before installing the MapInfo Professional 4.1.2 patch, determine which version to install. To check the version of MapInfo Professional:
Start MapInfo Professional.
Select HELP > ABOUT MAPINFO
The following upgrade installation is valid only with MapInfo Professional v4.1, it will not work with MapInfo Professional for ProServer. Note: MapInfo 4.1.2.16 does not support the Excel 97 file format. This problem is solved in MapInfo 4.5.
Attention International Customers:
The following will NOT work with localized versions of MapInfo Professional v4.1.
The following steps describe the successful download and installation of the MapInfo Professional v4.1.2.16 upgrade. All files needed can be accessed at the bottom of this document. The following upgrade to v4.1.2.16 valid only with MapInfo Professional v4.1.
NOTE: It will be necessary to download the appropriate patch for each operating system. The patch is valid for owners of MapInfo Professional v4.1. The upgrade install will only work for LOCAL installs of MapInfo.
Step 1 - Create a temporary directory
Create a temporary directory on your harddrive such as C:\UPGRADE.
Step 2 - Download the patch
Download the self-extracting archive below containing the main program and place it in the temporary directory created in step 1.

Step 3 - Decompress the archives
To expand the archive(s) downloaded in step 2, simply run each of the programs from the DOS prompt, File Manager, or Explorer. After running the self-extracting archive(s), there will be a series of disk images in the temporary directory along with a setup program.
Step 4 - Run Setup.exe
One of the files created in Step 3 will be SETUP.EXE. Running this program will start the install wizard that will lead through the rest of the installation process.
NOTE: Windows NT - It is necessary to be logged on as a user with Administrator rights on the local machine to install MapInfo Professional.
