Summary:
Zoom level changes after map is panned using the grabber tool.

Question:

Why does the zoom level of a map change after the map is panned using the grabber tool?
To replicate, use the Usa table. Use the Change View button to set the Zoom (Window Width) to 300 miles. Now, use the grabber tool and pan the map in any direction. Click on the Change View button again. Notice the Zoom (Window Width) has changed.

Answer:

This issue is caused by the Projection of the Mapper. If the projection was in Non-Earth, the zoom level should not change at all as the world is no longer projected. MapInfo has to recalculate its position in respect to the mapper's position across a projected surface, not a flat one. It is not like having a magnifier on a piece of paper.
